important distinction: Warpcaster is not a token, and the devs have so far laid a credible path toward making Farcaster an open source and sufficiently decentralized protocol. having the FC community rally around a centralized memecoin feels anti-cypherpunk and goes against the network’s entire ethos. 🙄

having a specific ethos limits and biases the network decentralized network and its communities should be free to exercise any ethos they want degen happened to become the biggest one here so far I get your criticism but you’re free to distribute your own token for people to rally around

But if you or whoever else distributes a token - it’ll be centralized already no? The only way is to enable lightning transfers here instead of warps, like on nostr But nostr I think is failing exactly because of the ethos of btc community Open to your suggestions

Sure, anybody is free to launch a memecoin here. I think it’s also healthy for users to criticize and question it when it starts getting shilled or misrepresented by bagholders. I’m seeing it promoted as a core feature of FC protocol and a benefit to network health; to me it seems more insidious and parasitic.

If it was 1) not allocated so heavily to devs, early investors and power casters, 2) open source and 3) not just owned & operated by one anonymous actor, I think I’d be less harsh on it.

Agree it's healthy, but the other piece is you having a problem with other people promoting it. But degen is not a core feature of FC protocol, but you can't educate everyone I guess and make everyone say what it actually is. You can't have a decentralized network without these incidents
