Had a very sobering conversation with my kids tonight about the state of U.S. politics. It’s unsettling to think this is the world they’ve grown up in - where division, anger, and uncertainty seem to dominate the headlines. I tried to stress importance of staying informed, being kind, and working toward positive change, no matter how challenging it feels. But man, does it feel challenging! Has anyone else had similar conversations with their pre-teen/ teenagers? Any tips or talking points?

Had the same convo with my 6 year old. He's a kind person (for a 6 yo lmao) so we don't want him to lose that going forward if he starts paying more attention to the news. My guess is keeping him on that track will get harder pre-teen/teen years...

I think there’s just more of an awareness at the teenager level. They see the news, have access to the web, social media, etc. I think because of that, it’s even more important to have these discussions with them. They’re good kids, they know right from wrong, and it’s a good opportunity to reinforce our values, while also hearing and trying to address their concerns.
