Some projects take well tested components from different projects and stitch a new protocol out of it. Nothing wrong in that, to reduce code risk, but with this strategy you can't lead innovation.

Either you have better biz dev skills, marketing or connections than the orignal authors or will not make it in the long run. As a copy most can't further innovate the components, while the orginal authors can. https://video.twimg.com/tweet_video/GB9LwdCWwAA5rSM.mp4
