at some point I don't understand what their goal is - do you want someone to pay the rent or do you have to have the perfect legal case against me in the 0.0001% chance I don't?

sorry to hear this! at least in SF, landlords are extra paranoid about bad tenants because it's almost impossible to remove them even when they're delinquent on rent due to strong tenant protection rights. not to sound like a libertarian but it's another case of unintended consequences of regulation meant to protect actually doing harm

Similar thing in Europe. They’d rather have someone with a fixed contract that makes €1.5k than someone that makes 15 as a freelancer!

The good thing is that’s you avoided a Karen landlord. They are a nightmare specially in California. If they are picky like this, imagine when something breaks in the house 🤷‍♂️

This is BS....8 yrs ago I tried something like this in Atlanta. At the time I was up--790 credit score, substantial savings and enough to pay rent for the year--no go. Offered to pay a year up front--still no go. Try dealing with a private owner.

Generally they’re known as a class of hoarders and leeches so this behavior is inline w/ that. I’m more surprised they’re dragging you through it isn’t of being upfront though. Dealing w/ an individual landlord vs. a corp one?
