a thread on my work and process —

the way i create is based on intention and intuition. i choose a concept or state of being to express first, feel into it physically, then tune inward to intuitively see what the piece will look like

for ‘held’ i wanted to express a feeling of mutual support and appreciation

the next stage involves holding the energy of the concept the entire time i’m working, translating the vision as accurately as possible into form without interfering

this is when the ego makes the most noise

“add some things so people will be more impressed,” it demands. "this looks too easy"

but to be an artist is to ignore the ego’s anxieties and projections and stay true to the spirit of the work. to remain authentic. to express from the highest level of consciousness that you can

as agnes martin said, create with your back to the world

for ‘messages’ my process was slightly different. instead of a predetermined concept, i sat with a sketchbook and asked for the vision that most wanted to come through that day

i would then see an image and intuit the text afterwards

sometimes there was no exact way to translate the idea into words

"what if you didn’t try so hard?"

this one embodies a deep relaxation into one’s power—instead of centring one’s consciousness around the head and shoulders, focused on thoughts and doing, there’s a shift downward into the core

it’s a more grounded state, based on trust and allowing, where less is done but more is achieved

much of my work can be better understood by merging it with one’s own body

"feel the rain" may look like an inverted rainbow or umbrella catching water from the sky, but it’s actually intended to be more figural—a physical map of the process of feeling everything offered by the human experience, as fully as possible

a blend of euphoria and pain, deeply embraced
