thank you for your question.
In my case, I "only" draw the lines and then photograph/scan those, see below. Then I turn them into vectors and work on the vectors to have clean lines.
After that, I fill them with colours.
When I look at the works of your wife, I would suggest you take a good photo right hovering as well as you can above the drawing. You can then do some minor adjustments in some editors, maybe you can get it to work.
I am not too good with digital tools, but all my works are physical based, so if you feel I can help you, I can DM you my email, then you can send a photo over, and I can try a little bit if I can get it going.
