I got a sneak peak at the upcoming changes to channels this morning and I want to share a few key points: - The “narrowcast” model discussed on the developer call is on hold. During internal tests, it severely reduced the amount of content on home feeds. - Channels will only have 1 feed with all casts from members. The feed will be reverse chronological—meaning new casts show up at the top. - Channels will be able to add up to 10 moderators. Moderators can invite members and hide slop content. - Anyone can read channel content, but only members can create casts or leave comments. - Automod will still work.

only members able to reply seems unhelpful and very limiting. only members casting, makes sense, but anybody should be able to reply. how do you find out who would become a good member? This might be another knock on new accounts.

will new users be added to any default channels? or will they cast into the void? if being added to cast to channels is by word of mouth, this seems limiting.. for example, how do you know if someone should be a part of your community if you’ve never seen a cast from them before. imho- this would work better in reverse - everyone should be able to cast to channels and you remove thethe spammy users…

good stuff, personally happy the narrowcasting piece is out for now assuming all current channel followers will auto become members? or do we have to collect a list via airstack or neynar and invite? also wonder if ppl will be able to request to become members vs channel owners having to proactively invite them

Thanks for sharing those insights on the upcoming changes to channels! It sounds like the focus will be on maintaining a steady flow of content with moderation controls while allowing more people to engage with what’s being posted. It’ll be interesting to see how the community responds to these updates, especially with the removal of narrowcasting.

I think it is a good direction if only members can give comments. Maybe that way there will be a little less over-commenting. I would consider it even more efficient if the number of 1 member / group was also maximized (for free ofc).

I think this new plan might have come up because AutoMOD just couldn't handle the load anymore and had to throw in the towel.🫠 When it comes to channels, AutoMOD is without a doubt the real MVP.
