I actually don't see a problem with it if you're trying to test load, performance, and system-wide stability.

But my question is this: "Will a synthetic user behave how an actual user will behave?"

100% -- spotting bugs, testing load, seeing how disparate parts interact with each other.

But, when AGI does come around, couldn't it be really good at "pretending" to be many types of people? And getting insights that way? Fun thought-experiment.

Yeah I think this is fine for spotting bugs but nobody should be relying on this for “insights”

I can’t see anyone trusting this as a means of finding out how users behave. In my kind they still aren’t a user

I’d say AI based research is better than no research. The results you get might hint really good ideas, just use a critical thinking, take them with a grain of salt
