Thoughts on getting married at 22? I have a friend who’s getting married this year and it SCARED me. Is it a good idea to get married that early?

Interesting to see how sticky this topic is with the community. Love and marriage is an equation we all would like to crack 💘

Did some calculations as a preteen and decided 26 was the perfect age to get married. Take it from me in 27 lol

My husband was 22, I was 24 when we got married. I think it largely depends on maturity levels and whether both are aligned on things that are important to have/not have: when/if to have children and how they're going to be raised, views on mono/polyfidelity, but even the simple stuff – diet, habits, interests

Took awhile longer for me. I worked some crazy hours through nearly all of my 20s. (Got married at age 27, we dated for 15 months before going for it.)

There are pros and cons. My 2cs is that it can often be tricky to know yourself well enough to then find a spouse that complements you by 22. That being said, ppl have done it and come out better for it than folks who have waited

marriage is a personal, cultural, economic, and health-motivated decision. it's very hard to cast judgment, even when knowing both partners in the marriage well. i think the more interesting questions is - what scared you about two people at age 22 getting married?

I don’t about marriage at 22… But I do know it’s exquisitely difficult, if not impossible, to know what’s going on in someone else’s relationship. I’d say support the friend, whatever happens.

For me this is too young but it’s really based on the individual.

I think in certain contexts it makes sense. I know friends who've been in relationships since high-school for 4+ years, so marriage was inevitable, so better to do it sooner than later. In general though: https://i.imgur.com/Vq3a4Fh.png

I got married at 22. It definitely helped me mature quickly and it's been great to have that constant throughout my adult life. I think in general the younger you are the longer you should probably know each other before getting married.

I think it depends on the people. I don’t think anything is necessarily good or bad. It just kinda is.
