"The reason that we have MEV is mainly because we've taken TradFi mechanisms that work well on continuous time and deployed them to a system that doesn't have continuous time. 

So, DeFi is built on the broken premise of continuous time mechanisms. 

And the fact that two people that are trading the same asset within the same block get different execution leads to this incentive for the builder or some other party to order the transaction in a certain way so that they get the best execution of an asset in a block and somebody else gets the worst execution."
