Is there a playbook for leveraging interns as a remote tech startup? is it worth the effort/time invested - how have you made it it work, if at all?

High variance, low EV pre-pmf imo Better to hire a full-time junior employee

yeah managing interns is a lot of work, especially for a small team, to then have that person leave after a short time. at least if you bring a student in as a contractor and can keep them around part-time they can support you for a long time. but better to do it when you are an established company.

people think interns are a way to get low-barrier labor but it's really a pipeline for future employees. if you have an early startup you don't need that as much. you need committed people.
