Have you noticed recently where ads will not advertise what they are selling but they pretend like they are an influencer that found this cool thing and they are telling you about it? I don’t like being sold things I don’t want, but this is an interesting development

It touches upon the idea that we want a 2nd person perspective (being told what is cool, or what you should do) as well as we see other (3rd person perspective) that is — what are these other cool people doing and how do I get in on that Even though it’s explicit it touches us in a way that feels inherent in us?

And before you say mimetic desire and wave your hand magically over it and call it a day, what is mimetic desire anyway and why do we want what others deem is cool, not just from an evolutionary perspective but it is inherent in us and should we? Or should we not? If so why?

It’s inherent in us no doubts and we should not adapt to this logic because it’s the logic of the bigger castle or the fastest car, the neighbor garden is always greener and so on.
