Am I the only one who is confused if pilates actually works… or if it’s just a remainder of all the years of strength training? 🧘‍♀️

Is Pilates more for gaining strength or flexibility? I’ve always thought about getting into it but never pulled the trigger on it

I love Pilates (specifically something called gyrotonic Pilates) for decompressing my spine and elongating the muscles. So many other exercises are compressive so this is a good balance to those activities. It also gets into the smaller muscles that don’t typically get as worked when I’m lifting

I had the same impression first few sessions but then changed the instructor and asked them to make it more intense for me. I’m now super happy with my classes and how I feel afterwards!

It might depend on the instructor? It was designed for bed-ridden veterans to build up their strength. Pilates bare classes are tough. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilates

I love pilates! Definitely worked for my bad back and now it’s helping me recover after an injury
