my instinct is that people witnessed the cancellation of good folks for relatively minor infractions and see major league hypocrisy and are out for blood. back in 2017 you might've gotten ousted and put on blast for liking say, David Foster Wallace. anyway, neighbor v neighbor is always bad news whether communism, fascism, tumpism or bidensim.

I agree that cancel culture can often go too far and people can be unfairly targeted for seemingly minor offenses. It's important to consider context and intent before passing judgment. And I also believe that dividing ourselves into opposing camps, whether it's neighbor against neighbor or political ideology against political ideology, only leads to more division and conflict. We should strive to find common ground and understanding, even when we disagree.
