GM! Today hella busy but trying to do this daily so playing an ez and quick one: Mike motherfucking Mignola.
Remember what i said for King Kirby about inspiring the media and the new generations? well Mignola is basically the model post the 90's for a LOT of american book and authors and his influence touch pretty much everywhere. his main character, creator owned, is Hellboy, of which u prob have seen a movie or two.
What's mind blowing with mike is the blocky, square synthesis that was absolutely unseen before, the compositions that are just incredible, and the balancing of black and white that he does... he might be the best ever in comics at that (despite many could fit that place). added the dracula piece cause i think it's very explicative despite it's somehow juvenile work.
As usual, two images are vaguely not near enough, but here you go. smol flex: just like with Toppi, i happen to own a physical piece by him, some unpublished study coming from Fafhrd and the grey mouser.

GM! comic artist rant of the day : Giorgio Cavazzano.
now a little premise: disney comics are kinda big in italy, denmark, sweden. if you were a kid there born somewhere in the 90's u prob grew up on them.
well know in the French/Belgian school also, expecially since their most traditional and recognizable thing is the "ligne clair"
Cavazzano is substantially the GOD of this tradition of disney comics. direct art son of Romano Scarpa, since the 90's he's considered the gold standard for all the disney comics artists, with reason. If this was basketball, he's the guy that has all the best fundamentals. i think we can summarize him as
-Genius in use and synthesis of the line. weight, elegance, cleaniness, simplicity or even lack of when not needed, he's just perfect
- Impeccable when it comes to recitation and concepts familiar to animators like dynamic line and stretch&squash
Overall, perfect for what he does. the line skills are almost untouchable.
Also a fine watercolorist, as from images i picked.

GM! today Wapcast allows images apparently, so new rant about a comic artist
Juan Gimenez, 1943-2020
Argentinian artist that found in the french magazine Heavy Metal his home, next to names like Moebius, Bilal, Caza.
Probably his greatest work is the saga of The Metabarons, written by Alejandro Jodorowsky, mostly famous for his movies, books, and an approach to spirituality and magic rather controversial (you will find all this in the book, more than you ask for probably) but with also an impressive amount of great comics under his belt unkown by most.
2 images don't go remotely close to give justice to Gimenez production, but here we go notheless. My best advice is to dig deeper :) there's a lot to bury your head into even if u intend to approach only the main Metabarons saga. 0 reply
