The cognitive dissonance here is much harder to process than the DOGE rationale.

Why are Elon & Trump firing thousands of US Forest Service & National Park Service workers despite those orgs already being understaffed?

1) they don’t care about public goods and lands; national parks are just real estate they’re not allowed to monetize for personal gain. Trump already reduced public lands by ~3 million acres in his previous term. When he opens up land to commercial uses, he can use it to line his own pockets directly or indirectly

2) they are cutting expenditures with no real regard for the consequences so they can make a better case to give more tax cuts to the upper class, despite the cuts having no chance of offsetting the tax breaks

This is not hard to reason about.

Ted is sad, rightfully, that our public lands will suffer greatly under this admin. I am sad she can’t seem to grasp “why” this is happening, and that previous DOGE cuts didn’t bother her enough to cast despairingly.
