Posting this again - I think it's important that we retain "solo staker" as the definition of a node operator who validates without anything between them and the Beacon Chain contract. It is the most "solo" way of staking In contrast, "independent operators" can look like a lot of different things (DVT stakers, Lido CSM validators, Rocket Pool minipool operators, solo stakers using data centers). This is a big pool of tapped and untapped node operators and they're essential for decentralization "Independent operators" isn't as catchy but I think it's good to have strict definitions to work from, otherwise we end up getting lost in 'decentralization word salads' where everybody means something different

I find it useful to refer to this category of ‘independent operators’ as ‘home stakers’ in general (solo/minipool/DVT) as most individuals can relate to it

agreed!! i like that terminology. imo, home staking is what matters most - is a solo staker on aws really offering more decentralization than a rocket pool staker operating a node at home? debatable. home stakers are 🐐🐐🐐
