a piece that I am very inspired by is Benjamin Constant's The Liberty of Ancients Compared with that of Moderns (1819)

Allegory of the Cave sums up freedom, breaking away from the shadows and seeing things in the light. Don't settle for what may be put in front of you, seek the truth, and free your mind.

the relief to exploration. the opposite of freedom is captivity. it's the stress of colliding against a system that is smaller than one's surroundings.

Free is the person who lives as he wishes and cannot be coerced, impeded or compelled, whose impulses cannot be thwarted, who always gets what he desires and never has to experience what he would rather avoid. - Epictetus

Iโ€™ve been thinking about this my whole life, changing my view often. Today, freedom means having an empty mind (absence of words), allowing me to have a direct experience of reality, others, and myself. I usually fail at it, but Iโ€™m getting better over time.

Wake up and go to sleep whenever you choose. Spend your time on whatever you choose. Go wherever you want to go. Build a life on top of the foundations and principles that are important to you.

Freedom is very much linked to a sense of agency for me. The less agency over my whereabouts, thoughts, and environment, the less free I feel.

I agree with many here, for me freedom means essentially being able too choose. Also, freedom is not only from constraints imposed by others, but by ourselves too. These, to me, are mostly created by fear (of dying, of being alone, of losing money, of losing job, etc).
