Not only is Noir replacing Circom - it is the one that is best at building a dedicated community. Every framework has design trade-offs which you can argue forever. Having the best community often decides winners.

If you believe zk-L2/rollups are the way to go. Then coSNARKs are the only option for encrypted compute.

šŸ’Æ But most people donā€™t know why: 1. The give you efficient privat proof delegation (users get server side zk capabilities without giving up privacy/control) 2. Itā€™s the only way we know to get efficient verifiable confidential compute.

Even if we crack scalability and interoperability for blockchains by 2025, it wonā€™t bring the world on-chain. Why? Businesses and users need privacyā€”at least Web2 levels (weā€™re far from that in Web3). The catch? Web3 canā€™t just replicate Web2 privacy. (Hint: it can go beyondā€”but thatā€™s a topic for another post.) Take ā€œprivateā€ validiums: ZK chains where validators hold the full state but donā€™t share it. Sounds like Web2-style "privacy from peers," right? But relying on centralized operators undermines decentralization. Soā€¦ why even start with a chain? šŸ¤”

Excited for tomorrow: Our first internal hackathon. One week, self-chosen projects, and ideas weā€™ve been eager to try. Highlights include: - Secret-shared Santa: an on-chain gift exchange powered by coSNARKs. - Asymmetric private proof delegation. Will be fun!

If you're curious about coSNARKs after this week's Zk podcast episode featuring Dan Boneh (one of the two original authors of the coSNARKs paper), this thread has you covered! https://x.com/taceo_io/status/1862124669425369581?s=46

Over the past few months, Iā€™ve been working on improving how I communicate about the work I do. One piece of advice that stuck with me was to focus on just one platform at a time (thanks @ishverduzco). Thatā€™s why Iā€™ve been mostly active on Twitter lately. While Iā€™m far from mastering it, Iā€™ve realized how much Iā€™ve been missing Farcaster. Feels great to be back!

If you think creating representative benchmarks for ZK is hard, then don't even start thinking about MPC. The addition of network dynamics introduces a whole new level of complexity that could be debated endlessly.

What is the end-game for privacy infra? Equilibrium just dropped a banger blog post. original, unopinionated, funny Itā€™s the best piece you can read about the MPC, FHE, ZKP, and TEEs landscape. chapeau @hammyx šŸŽ© https://equilibrium.co/writing/do-all-roads-lead-to-mpc
