Owners of franchises - how would you feel if your franchisor released the ranking of all system stores monthly by say order number (in our instance it would be "car count") but not give the numbers just the ranking of highest car count to lowest

I did it for about three years before the Harrisburg quick lube. It was a fun side thing but unless I had bought a CNC lathe it would’ve never scaled.

The silver tsunami is playing out differently than most thought. There isn’t a massive transfer of wealth, there is a massive liquidation of assets. Owner operators are winding down leases and shutting down shop without looking for a sale of the value created.

My first real attempt at entrepreneurship was custom baseball bats. I had a lathe and a CNC router. I would hand turn the bats on the lathe and then do custom engraving on the router. At the time I was the only one on eBay doing it. I didn’t charge enough money.

There are some businesses that shouldn’t franchise. Whether it’s there is no moat or there is no proprietary lead gen system or whether the barrier to entry is low there are certainly some businesses that should not franchise. Prospective franchisees need to know what questions

Great book on War Time business leadership. Took a few of the practices Ford was doing leading into the Great Recession and implemented with our team. Auto industry failure is a cautionary tale in too many yes men around you.

Travel baseball is terrible for kids & also parents. Serious baseball kids figure out fairly quickly. I lived breathed baseball from basically 8 years old to 22 but stuck to school affiliated teams.

Paying a bad employee more money doesn't make them a good employee. You can incentivize pointed behavior with money (i.e. commissions for xyz) but a blanket increase in pay doesn't make a material difference

Oil changes seem uniquely positioned as something you “should” do yourself. We get dozens of comments from folks who based on their profile pictures do not do much eating at home who comment on our ad “change your own oil it’s half the cost!”
