I don't buy it. People don't want products or vision, people want to be a certain way or do certain things.

People's wants are a separate concept from the things that can satisfy their wants.

Can you help me understand how that differs from a product (math or idealistic)? Trying to see if I’m missing something.

The products that enable the progress are secondary. Soon as the person stops wanting the progress the product is no longer valued. The product is a means, the progress is what matters. It's what people actually want.
