You must balance two things: nobody should be harder on you than you, nobody should be more supportive of you than you. Your inner voice can have high expectations while still being kind. I realized one day that there was no way for me to believe anyone else was speaking to me kindly if the inner monologue was a complete trash fire. The reality we make begins with that internal dialogue
