my sister took a pretty conventional path to success (go to school, get MBA, pay off debt, work at a fortune 100) after helping her move into a downtown Chicago apt (view below) I can’t help but feel a pull toward a more traditional approach at life, rather than the nomadic/self-employed journey i am currently on

imagine working for someone else, forever it’s not actually that, really but the mental torment of accepting that and giving up on your dreams—that doesn’t seem like something you could live with

Have felt this push and pull my whole life. Graduated college in 04, had odd jobs (while also doing my own things) until roughly 2008 when economy crashed and have been winging it ever since. Have sometimes longingly looked at peers with stability.

I believe that each one of us has its own path in life As long as you are happy with the path you’ve chosen, then nothing else should matter I find myself in your position from time to time and every time I remind myself that there is nothing else I would do in my life than what I am doing now It’s harder, short-term it may feel like I am left behind or losing, but long term it could be the best thing that I could have done🌹

I know that feeling… but for creative people the traditional approach can be really stifling. I do think it’s possible to find some sort of balance between the two.

Can you have both? Especially if you are building software products, increasingly I think you may be able to have a stable job but carve out sometime to build

Yea its different for different people. Nothing wrong with this path. It has its own struggles as well. People can make it.
