fwiw all the people i work with are talking about: - making smart wallets usable - driving average L2 fees <$0.01 - bringing L2s to stage 2 decentralization - enabling L2 interoperability for seamless UX - making it dead simple to build on L2 ignore the noise, just build.

The elephant in the room is bridging. I know Base has tried to make this straight forward, and there's nothing you can do about L1 gas fees, but its an obstacle for most non-natives nonetheless.

I definitely think thats part of it, but abstractions over L2s (i.e. make it entirely transparent to the user) is gonna be the thing that onboards “people who don’t care about crypto”. E.g. friend from EU can’t split bills with me, they’d use crypto if a transparent bank<->chain app existed w/ low fees

All current options are still too high friction and cost at minimum a few percent to do the round trip. In an ideal world my friend is fine just using USDC, but almost no one I know IRL is 😔
