Your M chip Mac book pro is actually more powerful than the medium or large AWS instances. Just because it runs like a champ on your machine doesn’t mean it’ll run like that on production.

the corollary: AWS charges like $300/mo to rent hardware that compares to the toaster you are developing on. cloud hardware comes at a tremendous premium. this includes GCP, Azure, vercel, fly, and all managed DB solutions. if you are on a budget, consider baremetal from day 1.

or if you're a real big nerd like me, stick one of these in your closet and host a hundred apps for like $1/day in electricity, also doubles as a space heater (colo would obviously be better, damn thing gets loud during CI builds)
