Merging #galaxies! The object Arp 240 (galaxies NGC 5257 and NGC 5258) is located at a distance of 300 million light years from us. The #pictures show how the galaxies are connected by a kind of bridge of #stars. The first image was obtained by the #Hubble #telescope, the second - by the #SubaruObservatory.

A ghost island off the coast of Azerbaijan, photographed by NASA satellites. A series of images have been released showing a new island appearing in the Caspian Sea and then almost disappearing. It is the result of a mud volcano, and the island has appeared and disappeared at least eight times. Each time, the patch of land that appears is a different size. This time, it was about 300 meters across at its widest.
