Indeed, but I think it is attributable to our generally fragmenting attention economy. The Olympics was most meaningful when it was a collective event that we were all focused on together. When I was a kid that was the case. I remember sitting in rapt attention with not just my family but the whole neighborhood watching 100M sprints and other events. 

Now I would say a majority of people I know are paying little to know attention to the Olympics and are focused on a dozen other smaller things. The grandeur is clearly seeping away with each generation. The old world is dying and the new is still struggling to be born.

I also find it interesting that they chose to have comedians (and Snoop) commentate this year. It was a genius idea for our day and age, but it says something that such an honored and solemn ceremony is now treated that way. Bob Costa was the staple as long as I can remember.

I have older French friends that love Snoop, they have shared that sentiment as soon as they found out he was going to be involved  - the 2028 being in LA I think it was a great idea to have Snoop around as ambassador, he made it more entertaining and perhaps it needed that not to be stale or too French 😂
