I strongly disagree btw, if we expect blockchain to be the underlying base layer of a trustless society we have to abstract away the complexity

I don't think that was the main point of this tweet. 

For me the point was that every hardware producer could theoretically add backdoors to their firmware, and we already trust smartphone and computer producers that they won't do it. 

(Ofc the fact that Ledger doesn't make this update opt-in is bad)
