Our goal is to scale Farcaster to 1 million daily users. 

Farcaster will need to handle 10,000 messages / second while staying credibly decentralized. That's roughly in the same order of magnitude as most global credit card networks.

A higher hub cost is going to cut down on hobbyists “helping” the network, which will likely lead to more resiliency at the p2p layer.

Libp2p can kind of suffer when there’s way too much traffic coming from people running toasters.
