Okay, what did I pay $5 for? How is this different than every other attempt I’ve seen come and go to create a decentralized social media platform? I joined Steem in June of 2016 and then became a consensus witness and was part of the Hive fork. This has all been done before. Not enough people seemed to care.

Think timing is a big part of it. So much more functionality available now that the Ethereum ecosystem has progressed. It’s actually scalable now, there is a base level of knowledge around NFTs, more people are into crypto now so there is larger market to draw in the core kernel of daily users.

Plus arguably some of the pitfalls of web2 centralised social have become much more evident since 2016. See Reddit’s API drama, YouTube demonetisation of creators, Facebook political polarisation etc.
