Maybe global-south nations who will be most hit by climate change will start threatening to do this unilaterally; even if other techniques are ultimately better, perhaps they need the push to get to the finish line

"Climate change will make the earth inhospitable for human life" and "but we can't solve it THAT WAY!" are fundamentally incompatible notions.

If a patient has a cold, you give them tea and natural remedies. If a patient has cancer, you give them chemotherapy.

Think this is a bad analogy. 

The patient is overweight and smokes with a history of heart disease. The solution is to eat right, quit and exercise; not to medicate to facilitate a self destructive lifestyle.

But if the patient already has cancer then you do need to start with the chemo.
