Knee pain? Chondral defects may be very disabling. Diagnosis by MRI but… surgical findings offer best opportunity to assess and classify. Often worse than initial inspection. 🧐 Pic one shows an articular cartilage defect of the medial femoral condyle and the second pic the same area (note larger size) after debridement with microfracture in process.

OC Friday Facts: PRP for knee arthritis—platelets turbocharge healing, but it’s no fountain of youth. Studies say 60% feel relief at 6 months(Maretti et.al. 2022). I’d rather inject than hobble. Thoughts? #Orthocast

Your orthopedic records shouldn’t be locked in a hospital vault. Blockchain could let you own your MRI data, your operative records, your treatment plans… —secure, portable, yours. How would this change care?

But first..... coffee! A recent study looked into the time of coffee consumption and beneficial effects. Coffee, the world's most popular stimulant drink, has been linked with lowering risk of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and death! In the study of 40,725 adults participating in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2018 found the beneficial effects association with morning coffee drinking (4am to 11:59am) as oppossed to all day coffee drinking or non-coffee drinkers. No difference was found in mortality between those drinking coffee all day and non-coffee drinkers. The study limitations included that results were based on self-reporting and confounding variables, such as work hours and other lifestyle variables, were not measured or excluded. Nonetheless, enjoy your MORNING cup of joe with health inspired confidence!

Surgery postponed or cancelled last few months? IV Fluid shortages have been affecting hospitals and surgical centers across the nation ever since Hurricane Helene brought significant flood damage to a Baxter manufacturing site in western North Carolina. A whooping 60% of all IV fluids delivered to hospitals across the nation are supplied from Baxter's North Cove, North Carolina facility. Amazing that such a large percentage of our nations supply comes from a single facilty. Expectations on improvement were postponed but predicted by end of March, 2025.

AI in healthcare ➡️ the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in England set to recommend use of AI in urgent care settings to reduce the number of broken bones missed by X-ray. They suggest 3-10% of fractures are missed in emergency departments.

Rotator cuff tendon repairs ideally are not under tension... but tendons also heal better when maximally reconnected to bone. Tough to balance both at times during cuff repair surgery. 0x16f7e56fc6d5db951ed10bf7045ff10cb170fdf1

Get well soon Victor Wembanyama. A blood clot in the arm is much less common than the leg. Should be taken seriously due to risk of embolic phenomena to the lung or heart. Hopefully he’ll be back and not become Chris Bosh situation. Some thoughts of thoracic outlet syndrome potentially playing a role ie Brandon Ingram…. 👇
