When I listen to podcast hosts like Lex or Rogan or Cowen, I'm partly listening because the interviews are great. But they're entertainment, after all.

The real reason I'm listening is because I want to understand how they ask questions, why they're so good, how to be that good.

Rogan is great because he makes it okay to feel dumb. He makes it acceptable to be the beginner— the audio version of ELI5. But he's so charismatic and good at getting people to "take their mask off" that you get the real person, in a way I don't think anyone else can do.

With Cowen, he just asks by far the best questions of anyone I have ever listened to.

He's like a turret gun. He doesn't let up. You can bullshit one thing or another, but he just keeps going, and then just as quickly zooms out and jumps across the material so effortlessly.

The thing I like about Lex is that he has this intense curiosity and passion, but is never disrespectful, never outspoken. He doesn't interrupt, even when he disagrees. I have immense curiosity and passion, but I'm much worse at that other stuff. So I pay close attention to that.
