People saying there should be fewer manifestos — I disagree, there should be far more manifestos. Everyone should have a manifesto. Try to write down the 5-10 things you truly believe in. At minimum it's a good exercise.

a tip for writing a useful manifesto is that someone should legitimately be able to take the opposite view on each of your principles otherwise it's simply an aspiration that everyone else is also shooting for.

Who’s saying we should write fewer manifestos? Agreed with the take, clarity of thought is a gem that needs polishing

I agree with this! In my chaplaincy work, I find that helping others identify their values naturally leads to discussions of their strengths, and thereby resolve stress and tension within their lives. Because stress / tension often arises from our minds noticing discrepancies between our values and our actions 🙏

As a writer who has been feeling uninspired lately, I appreciate this. Seems like a good writing exercise tbh

weirdly enjoy seeing companies changing/reducing their manifestos and values over time periods. I’d like to think that it means they reflect on them and stay aware and receptive to the changes

Too many people would have to honestly think about what they believe in then, and not just what's been convenient to believe in (or what they've been pressured to believe in)

Everything that makes the implicit explicit - or the unconscious conscious - or articulates what you stand for, is equally worthwhile and hard Which is why most people don't do it

"there should be fewer" is a bad take when our capacity for things, especially information, accelerates.

I appreciate your perspective on this. My take is that personal manifestos are hugely impactful to one's focus and drive. The danger comes in promoting a belief system as proof of a solution. Solutions should be neutral, based on facts, not beliefs. We learned this with the "super cycle" theory, right?
