Do people actually consciously make a judgement about quality of service when they tip??! I always just mindlessly add 15-20%. So the whole "tipping incentivizes quality of service" argument has always seemed unrealistic to me. https://x.com/tracewoodgrains/status/1826601506885320775

The sad truth now is that so many people depend on this as part of their salary that I typically mindless do 18% and then burst that up to 30% depending on level of service, typically in the 20-25% range. I have been told that my behaviour is hurting the incentive loop, but it feels like the right thing to do.
