DeSo homies, what are our actual thoughts on Focus? Are we hopeful, skeptical or do we not care anymore because we’re all in on FC? Worry not, this is a safe space - I’m not gonna rat anyone out to Nader 😆 Last time I had this convo with @krassensteins at Consensus

Oh, boy. Where to start? I read the Focus "whitepaper" and it just looks like another rebrand of BitClout/DeSo. I saw nothing new but updated buzzwords. I've seen the team over-promise and under-delivery so many times that there is NO WAY I believe anything they say anymore. Regarding "the tech". DeSo is not an expressive/contract based chain. It is just a set of centralized apis. It's a toy. If Nader wants NFTs on the chain, then his team decides how NFTs will function, and then they provide an api for it. The is how Web 2.0 startups work, it is NOT how Web3 works. And then the marketing...ugh. Are they still trying to convince everyone that "if only Elon Musk would start using DeSo, it'll change the world". 🤣 It just all feels smarmy and disingenuous to me.

I will say that I don't think Nader is malicious rug-puller, I think that maybe he doesn't want have to grow up and get a real job, and so will continue to LARP as a web3 startup CEO until the last of the investor money runs out. (👆 this is a little ugly on my part and I may repent later and delete.)

You'll notice that the DeSo website still likes to tout that they are backed by A16Z and yet...and yet...I've listen to podcast after podcast for years now with A16Z founders talking about decentralize social and they talk about Farcaster, Lens, Mastodon, etc and NEVER, NOT ONCE do they mention Deso. My guess is they have written down that investment years ago.
