I think the reason for this absolute hatred of crypto is that the predominant modern leftist mindset depends on a belief in governance making everything better how to fix healthcare? more government involvement how to fix income inequality? more government involvement crypto is an oil and water situation when it comes to this mindset one of the most OBVIOUS governmental duties is issuing currency crypto being legitimate would mean that this, a basic core use case of governments, is outperformed by the free market it's easier to block out the possibility of this being true than to adjust your fundamental worldviews

Still I can’t see why anyone here cares about block lists. This isn’t “government,” it’s literally free association! Some folks freely created lists of who they don’t want to associate with and people can opt-in to those things if they so choose. I would use a blocklist that stopped me from seeing CSAM or murder content. And I would block or mute someone like Elon or Trump, because if I ever need to know something they’ve said, I can be notified by journalists and then unmute them to confirm for myself. Blanked blocking, without any thought, is intellectually lazy, yes, but it’s opt-in. So let people be intellectually lazy; unless you want to be an authoritarian yourself

I don't really care about block lists, all I'm saying is that this is a piece of evidence to add to the pile that most pop modern leftists (not all leftists) lump crypto into some sort of evil Nazi/altright/maga bucket just stepping back and trying to figure out what we did to make them hate us so much it's a broad trend, try mentioning crypto on any major Reddit subreddit and see how you're treated lol

Yeah this frustrates me to no end. But I think if you step back, what you see is what they see: - the majority of crypto content is scammers and scam bots, people pumping meaningless token ponzis - laser-eyes Bitcoin maximalists siding with authoritarians and Andrew Tate - white-savior types claiming to have all the answers but barely delivering - infrastructure and website hacks demanding crypto ransoms It’s our job to convince them, and hope that we haven’t been blocked by them yet. So I agree, I don’t like the idea of someone blocking the word crypto outright. It’s intellectually lazy and will hinder their own ability to engage in good faith. But if they want to avoid seeing crypto content, either because they want a more cozy web experience (truly open systems don’t force people into the “town square”) or because they just don’t want to see spam, I get it.
