4 hour? Easy! we've done LAX<> ATH a few times with ours. Just plan a variety of activities, from downloaded things on tablet, to crafty things (e.g. I got a roll of tape that looks like a road/runway and used it on the seat trays to make an airport).

Have milk bottle ready for 1.5 yr old and water sippie cup for 4.5 yr old. When the plane takes off, their ears will start popping and drinking fluids while ascending / descending helps. Worst case, tell the 4.5 yr old to keep swallowing.

If your kids are in the weight range where they need a car seat, a "cares harness" is a great way to get around needing to deal with a car seat on the plane

that’s a tough age split! if you’re brining tablet(s) don’t forget headphones and if they want to watch at the same time a 3.5mm splitter or headphones you can daisy chain are awesome. also snacks. all the snacks

My friend has a “snack bag” with lots of goodies that the kids can rummage through at will on planes.

tablets for the kids, it is a must. Even if you restrict it to only air travel...It is a must. And lots of snacks in the bag.

Give yourself grace. Similar age gap and my youngest at that age kept crawling under seats, wouldn't sleep on the redeye, I was exhausted in tears. Gracious person in front of me heard me sniffling and told me I was ok, it was all going to be ok and it was temporary. Needed that.

Snacks are a must. Coloring books, let them pick them out they'll like it more. Sticker books are also good. Maybe a couple small toys, hot wheels/dolls are good for a while

My wife always used to pack a parcel of individually wrapped mini gifts, the kids would get to open one very 20 minutes or so. Inside was colouring, snacks, trinkets and mini toys. It worked, but it was work. She is pretty extra though and I love it.

Lots of snacks, and then more snacks. Fundamentally don’t give a shit what other people think when your kids make ‘noise’, they will be fine (the kids and the ‘adults’) 😂

Make sure they have a tablet/phone each, stickers are a cheap easy way to entertain and bring a lot of snacks. Good luck :)
