If you buy a fixer upper, outdated but liveable makes it all so much easier to casually do then a huge overhaul project.  I've done both and definitely recommend the outdated house

To that end, there's a lot of value in buying an original home rather than one that's been through renos on renos. Much easier to see and address problems, rather than not knowing what's been plastered over.
