Btw I got menaced by a tweaker on my way to work so loving the bike much less People keep telling me to buy a gun It’s not a reasonable thing to tell a person BUT it is directionally accurate I found self defense classes instead of just going to Walmart and buying gun

How did you get to work before? It’s a shame that we prioritize things like private car travel over keeping our streets safe and protecting vulnerable populations. It creates a situation where riding a bike is good for society but bad for individuals. This has been enraging me the last few weeks, actually.

Met a couple recently who had a very close encounter with a grizzly while hiking in the Canadian Rockies. Bear mace saved the day. Maybe consider bear mace to go along with self defense classes. Add a little spice to the tweaker’s life if need be.

Dang sorry bike already spoilered and cognitive load of constant safety checks so costly Tae kwon do was my gun alternate 🫤 back in the day and punching/kicking bag training underrated lol. Now live in a small rural college town and (almost) never think about personal safety #tradeoffs

I’m reading those replies and I feel worse and worse. It’s so crazy that this is becoming a reality in many places. My entire adult life I used to go out at night and walk back home by myself at 3am and I’d think nothing of it. It’s crazy that these days you seemingly can’t even be safe during the day much less at night.

I've taken a few self-defense classes as well, and they did so much to boost my confidence. Enrolled in a couple of weeks jiu-jitsu as well. I keep pepper spray on my bike, and I feel pretty good about that setup. Enjoy your classes!
