Hot take: Have been trying to introduce both Bluesky and Farcaster to people in tech but not crypto. The wallet login and web3 connotation have became a big obstacle to onboard more people. It will be even so when move to mainnet and pay gas to register. But CT need attention, they aren’t moving to FC neither.

I do like the ppl in FC and how easy to engage a conversation here. But I am pessimistic that it can sustain, especially after the successful take off of Bluesky. People seeking attention would prefer Bluesky over Farcaster, but people who enjoy conversation is turned off by web3 hurdles.

Major changes to FC are needed for survival. Here are things that needed: while as I understand Ethereum is essential in making the identifier not under centralized control (which is an unsolved problem in Bluesky), but normies can’t use it and don’t care. The web3 bits should be abstracted away from the UX.

An even more drastic change is changing the underlying protocol to be compatible with AT Protocol so that content are shared with Bluesky, but Warpcast become a community-focused client with heavy investment in filter algorithms. Good parts like short user handles could be kept as an extension to ATP.

What part of the wallet login is hard for folks? The writing down the seed phrase step?

This might sound counter intuitive, but creating a barrier to entry isn't a bad thing. It helps keep the signal to noise ratio of FC higher than other platforms. If people really want to be here, there's nothing stopping them from figuring it out. If they don't have the motivation, what value would they bring?

IMO this is a crypto/wallet problem, not a Farcaster problem - AND one that _will_ be solved with time + innovation. Imagine trying to onboard folks to an online store 20 years ago, when they reeeaalllly just wanted to write a check 🤪
