Housing market has been running amok unchecked for 20 years. I'm cynical about housing in Canada. I wish him luck. I love this idea. I genuinely think that all governments should be building housing. Denmark is a great example. It doesn't need to discourage private developers, but they would need to be competitive with a non-profit-motivated entity. I personally think it's important that the government does the construction and not just funds private developers so that costs don't get bloated.

trudeau said the exact same thing ~9yr ago (āweāre going to make housing affordable!ā) and then housing went +100-200% during his tenure canāt say I have high expectations for Carneyās plan to build 500k new homes per year with net immigration of 2M+ during the same timespan

Most politicians promise more affordable housing supply but the devil's in the details. We'll see how much is socializing housing and how much is just benefitting corporations and banks.
