You know, I always want to take a yellow cab home from the airport to support the taxi drivers who, a few years ago, were killing themselves in large numbers due to the medallion debt. But I’m not even home yet and the fare is already above what I’d have paid with Uber. It’s a shame.

Final bill was a $25 difference, all for the inconvenience of having to take the extra few minutes to pay at the end. Bad system.

Have you tried Empower? Like Uber but drivers get 100% of the fare, the platform monetizes by charging the driver a fixed monthly fee. Usually on par or cheaper than Uber They operate in NYC, DC and a few others places. I use it for airport runs in DC https://driveempower.com/

It’s been long enough. It seems like the taxi industry’s failure to make meaningful improvements is just negligent at this point. I don’t want to harm the people stuck in bad contracts, but I also don’t want to reward a truly bad system. Last time I took a cab he told me to take a photo of the meter as my receipt.
