The camel's coat changes from wool in winter to shiny, reflective hair in summer. The dromedary camel does not shed its hair, but maintains a smooth, reflective coat on its body year-round. The hump not only serves as a reservoir for water and fat, but one of its greatest uses is that by storing body fat in the hump, the subcutaneous tissues are almost fat-free, thus keeping the body cooler.
