I tied my shoes too tight during a 🏃‍♀️ race last year, and as a result lost a toenail a few weeks ago

Even though it wasn’t painful at any point I lost my mind when it first happened and was late to a party as I dawdled around my apartment freaking out about being able to touch the soft skin under the nail. I carefully protected it (from what I don’t even know). 

But now that it’s been gone awhile I don’t care anymore and it’s kind of fascinating. When you lose a nail an almost shadow nail forms. The skin changes. I am watching myself heal from an injury I have never experienced before. Is this how people who break a bone for the first time feel? Will probably be another 6 months before I have anything resembling a nail there.

had my fingernail bed ripped out and fractured the tip of my finger. needed stitches. fingernail died, then fell off, and took months to grow a new one. 

kept the tip of my finger wrapped in gauze for a hot minute to protect it from any infections. wasn’t fun or pretty lol

i feel like losing a nail isn't uncommon and quite likely when there's violent trauma to a finger or toe. 

i was playing baseball and manged to get hit directly on the nail while my hand was wrapped around the bat. definitely one of those freak coincidences. 

the er doc actually told me it was likely i wouldn't have a finger nail again because stitching back the nail bed was pretty hard since there's little skin to stitch. luckily i have a nail back with a finger that's a bit shorter than it was before.
