What is the end game for Monad? Is it to replace Ethereum? Is it to be a home for roll ups? Is it to be an environment for *some* EVM apps that require different speed than is offered by the current Eth stack? How do we think about this?

No. Specs are lot more affordable than SOL. Not sure how u jumped into "Skip stability for speed and crash or fragment" conclusion. Higher performance does not means unstable n/w.
