In 1908 Henry Ford’s Model T really introduced and marked the beginning of the age of mass transportation on a scale previously unprecedented. Affordable, easy to operate compared to other cars at the time and one of the first cars meant to be mass produced from the ground up Hard to understand how impactful it was

It’s hard to imagine a world where freeways didn’t exist, highways didn’t exist, gas stations didn’t exist, suburbia especially in the United States didn’t exist. Los Angeles was mostly a railway city. But that was the world in 1908 - it was very different and not meant for or friendly for cars

I have deep prospect for those who to take a new innovation and work really hard to make affordable for the broader population. Henry Ford was a master in this. He offered at first only the basic car with no amenities and only one color (black). Maybe we would call it a minimal viable product.

✊🏻🧠⚡️ Love! Model-T: Interchangeable, “hackable” parts. A “maker platform” in the form of a tinker-able Model-T. Counterpoint: Rolls Royce. (build systems)

As I pulled into the gas station today, I was imagining all the hate on cars at the time: “where will we put the fuel they need to run on?! There are very few roads — where will people drive? People have everything they need right here in town — why would they need to go anywhere on their own?!”

It never ceases to amaze. Must be crazier for the 100 year olds who literally watched this transformation in the Industrial Revolution from then to now.

Excellent points. It not only changed everything about business and work, but also created a whole new culture and opportunity for travel and leisure. No more loading up the horses and wagon. Now we could easily get to that picnic in the countryside without so much risk of peril (after the roads shaped up, of course).
