As I grow older, I realize how much my youth shaped my worldview and how it is increasingly becoming difficult to change or form anew I find myself fused (often irrationally) to them in different ways, esp when it comes to ideas / rituals that are close to who I am I am surprised to find myself not disliking that

I think about this a lot; I think realistically it’s more of a diminishing curve, but when do you think the “cutoff” age is for an intelligent person who intentionally tries to push their limits?

If you’re okay with sharing in this forum, I’d be curious to hear what some of those perceived irrational fusions to worldviews are and if there are identifiable patterns you can trace back to specific periods of your youth

Love this whole thread. I’ve got kids getting older and Independant and have lost both parents recently and find myself observing and enjoying all the little things in life far more than I used to. There is a nice balance.

Why do you think it is that you find it difficult to critically look at the beliefs from your youth? I agree it takes time to shift - to actually see the change - but is it easy for you to realize that some of those beliefs are BS?

It’s a form of nostalgia, maybe, soothes an ancient egoic wound (?)

I try to fight this by spending as much time as possible with people way younger than me

I find myself struggling with the opposite. Certain rituals I created as protective measures for my lower emotional intelligence at the time are now limiting and I don't know how to get rid of them.
