What Open Source AI tools are you using this week?

My usage this week:
- 80% Deepseek v3 / R1, I'd say mainly R1
- 15% Claude Sonnet until I run out of tokens
- leftovers go to ChatGPT
- playing around on runpod / local model for random experimentation etc, LM studio, ollama, stable diffusion, etc

I can't believe how much i'm using DS

creating and destroying; built flying cars & autonomous vehicles, now building roc.camera, writings: july.rocks

definitely! and also that this is not that different from every large shift we've gone through as a species, im optimistic that the world will change, and also that things will evolve and we will adapt

so wild. this tipping point we’re in is a time to remember. feels like everything is about to change

- o1 level model I can run my own infra
- turns out it’s also a great model (no bench marks; just vibes)
- relatively inexpensive to run for what it does
- it makes me feel like I live in the future 
- it’s a game changer
- I learned how to run it and it’s crazy how easy it is
- also papers on v3 / r1 are interesting

yes - a lot of the interest for me is around RL, esp in the context of robotics (in the context of transferring policies from sim to a real robot eventually)

so yeah, doing a lot of training in RL, so that's been interesting. sim is getting pretty good (Mujoco, Nvidia Isaac Sim, and genesis -- I've been trying them out)

I'm also curious about your experiments with the other models, like Claude Sonnet and everything else. Are you seeing any cool results from your random explorations?

TBD - Claude has been better overall for coding for me, but I'm definitely pleasantly surprised by DS

You running it locally or just leveraging the api?

Yeah I use Claude through the website (yes I pay the pro) and I also have an API key that I use for cursor

Where do you use Calude sonnet to run out of token? Are u using Anthropic API?

I feel like Claude is running hot these days — I can’t get anything meaningfully done there recently because I hit my limits just getting started

wanted to try out deepseek-r1 this weekend and couldn't find a good simple lightweight UI so made one  

pretty impressed by it, I think local open source modals are getting a lot better!
