“You have the rights to your actions but not the rights to the fruits of your action. Never consider yourself to be the cause of the results of your activities, nor be attached to inaction.” - what Krishna tells Arjuna (B.G. 2.47)

Oh man you read the right translation. General perception of these lines (even in India) is "You keep on doing actions without expecting results" which is different from what it actually says. This line never talked about expectations from actions but simply said that you don't have control on the results. Thanks for the right translation 🙏🏽🙏🏽

I have always enjoyed reading Ramana Maharshi’s commentaries on certain passages from the Bhagavad Gita. These are very foreign ideas to the western minds.

A sentence like that would create havoc in other places in the world. It’s true that our destiny is based by 90% on where we’re born indeed.

as important as your actions are, you're only one part of the larger outcome, a small piece of the overall fruits

IDK why, but this is one of my favorite philosophies (for lack of a better word). I guess because it assuages my own occasional sense of a lack of control over outcomes. Here are a couple riffs on the theme: "It is almost unimportant whether a work finds an understanding audience. One has to do it because one believes that it is the right thing to do. We are not only here to please." ~ Pina Bausch "If we can tune in to the idea of making things and sharing them without being attached to the outcome, the work is more likely to arrive in its truest form." ~ https://twitter.com/mintfaced/status/1640835362850471936?s=61&t=-q6xlOPFRcpU7wwoSEILzw

That’s a lot like Matthew 23:12 in the Bible “Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted”

Totally... like in sport: I don't decide when my goal is achieved. I decide the quality of my training, my effort and my perseverance. 108 $DEGEN for you mate!
